Like so many other people, I sometimes have a hard time following through on all the commitments I make – especially the ones I make to myself. This year I’m doing something a little different. I’ve put a few different things in place for myself:
First, I’m working with a couple of mentors – an idea I spoke about earlier. It’s working so far! Breaking down larger goals into smaller pieces, then sharing that with someone who you KNOW will be asking you about them again in a week, is definitely encouraging following through. I haven’t missed a commitment – yet.
Second, I’m taking advantage of January’s Monthly Action Plan ™ program through Compass. The theme for the month is “Make it Happen!” – how perfect for January. I’ve enjoyed the program so far and have gotten a lot out of it.
For example, the first day asked me to look around my space and notice the things that make me the happiest. Then asked me to notice a few things about them.
What I noticed was that the items that meant the most to me weren’t the gifts from other people, although those are important and make me smile. The one’s that meant the most to me were the one’s I had somehow brought into my own life – they were the results of the goals I’d had in the past and followed through on. And it wasn’t so much about the item itself, but the pride and joy I felt at the accomplishment itself.
Noticing this, helps me a LOT. It’s not always fun to be held accountable, even though it’s necessary and I asked for it. But I also know that those are the steps that will bring even more of the most meaningful results into my life.
There’s more to the Compass program, of course. I encourage you to discover what’s possible for yourself. This month there’s even a special: a 10 day free trial!
Even if you choose not to use Compass, I encourage you to look around your own space, and create the support system you need to follow through to bring even more of the best into your life.
Each day when I start up my computer there’s a “daily ponders” that starts up. I’ve chosen to receive quotes from successful entrepreneurs to help me stay focused and inspired each day. Along with those success-oriented quotes, there are also “afformations” from Noah St. John, PhD. But these aren’t the usual positive statements that your mind immediately says, “yeah, right” to. These engage the mind to think at a higher level.
How?
They’re questions, not statements. Questions such as:
- Why am I always in the right place doing the right thing with the right people?
- Why is my life such a miracle?
- Why is my life free from worry?
- Why am I allowed to be and do what I really want in this life?
It’s a great approach. Why? Because the brain can’t NOT respond to a question. It’s an approach used in marketing materials all the time to engage the reader with a few short, strategic questions, then move into the sales pitch. In this case though, the “sales pitch” your mind moves into is moving you to a new level.
So why not create some of your own afFORmations for 2009? Maybe one of the above questions works for you, or maybe something like:
- Why is following up so easy and fun for me?
- Why is my income increasing so much more than I expected?
- Why am I so grateful for all the little things?
What is it you want to create for yourself this year? Turn it into a positive question and let your brain begin to find the answers for you!
