I’m really enjoying what coach Susan Kim is teaching us about self-care this month. It’s refreshing, appropriately challenging, and rewarding. I feel better and better each day – and I’m only devoting about 10 minutes a day to the process.
Last week focused on a deeper understanding of what self-care really is – and is not – in our lives. This week’s focus is on understanding whta’s standing in the way, and being creative about how to remove those road blocks for ourselves.
One road block for me is my eating habits. I recognized that when I get stressed out and feel overwhelmed I start eating more and more junk. If the stress continues, I’ll stop eating altogether. This of course, only adds to the stress I feel since my body needs the nutrition. So, I’m focusing on doing 1 very simple thing to take care of myself: paying attention to what and when I eat. It doesn’t take any additional time out of my day, it’s just a matter of being more aware of the choice I’m making when I do eat. I’ve already noticed that my body feels better, and I feel more capable of handling what’s on my plate – the overwhelm feels far more in control and I’m far more productive.
I’m endlessly amazed at how simple and small some steps can be and yet, the incredible impact they can have.
What small choice can you make today to better take care of you?
As a mom, wife and entrepreneur, the idea of taking time out for me is quite funny most days! When? Where? How? There are so many other priorities that it’s hard to fathom. And yet, I also know that if I don’t, I’ll burn out and have nothing left to give anyone in my life.
So, I’m exploring the idea of taking care of myself this month through the Compass Monthly Action Plan. Today is Day 1. The first week is focused on visualizing what’s possible, so today the audio program (only about 4 mins long and easy to listen to) talked about how it is our birth right to feel cared for – and protected – and asked us to think of a time when we felt that way before.
As I wrote my list of times I felt protected I realized something that was interesting, at least to me: the times I’ve felt protected and cared for the most are the times when I’ve given myself some time away from it all – taking walks, going for a drive with just my journal, taking a long bath… It felt good to remember, and to recognize that if I did it before, I could do it again.
When was the last time you felt really taken care of and protected? Or you can explore it with me through Compass. Program options range from FREE to less than $60 per month.
Either way, take a moment to take care of you today! You deserve it.
